There are many reasons behind the costing of a particular policy, whether it's new driver, professional trucker, or driving instructor insurance. Age, experience, address, and driving record are all taken into account. Until recently, gender was also a significant factor, and there are others that are less easy to quantify.
For example, the safety and good upkeep of UK roads plays a role in keeping private, ADI, and PDI insurance rates down. Of course, a driving instructor can only make a tiny contribution to overall road safety. There are other ways of bringing down premiums. The Association of British Insurers recently demanded an investigation into false insurance claims, particularly for whiplash. They want better guidelines for diagnosis and thorough inspection of the role of claims management firms.
While many traffic injury claims are undoubtedly genuine, some are either completely false or exaggerated. The ABI suspects that the latter category make up quite a high percentage of the total when it comes to whiplash cases. If this is true, something does need to be done. There is no doubt that if the number of bogus injury claims could be reduced, premiums on ADI and PDI insurance would go down, and the cost of motoring would ease for everyone.
