It's true, you won't have outside activities like commutes to deal with, and you may think that time to do everything isn't a problem; however, in reality you may find getting everything done is a real challenge. One obstacle will be your other responsibilities. Home teaching is not a part-time effort, but requires a full-time commitment. Make a schedule for each day before the new week starts - just like a teacher in a traditional school does. A lesson plan, outside activities, lunch, recess, or whatever you are including in that weeks lessons. And try to follow it without getting too distracted by other things. The beginning and ending times for each day are important for everyone to know. You might also set the times for breaks and lunch so there is no doubt as to when a certain activity is scheduled. This is important even if the lunch break is only going to the refrigerator and getting out the milk and sandwiches.

As worthwhile as home schooling is for many families, don't expect it to always be a walk in the park. It takes a real commitment on your part, and you have to make sure your kids understand that they have to take home schooling just as seriously as they would any other kind of school. If you keep these guidelines in mind, however, you'll find that you can get off to a great start with home schooling.
