One game that just about everyone loves is bowling! This is one game that can be enjoyed no matter how young or old you are and whether it's clear, cloudy or snowing outside. Even if you don't especially like having to rent bowling shoes, once the game gets started almost everybody has fun. For most people, however, the game is even more fun when they play it well and get high scores. What you may not realize is that you can improve your score quite a bit by learning a few simple tips.
Making sure that you have a good grip on your ball is very important. If your grip isn't decent then you stand a good chance of losing all control when letting the ball go after your initial approach. You could end up throwing it into the air and never touching the lane - also known as lofting. You could accidentally send the ball in the completely wrong direction, in other words away from the land rather than towards it. You could end up injured! Having a good grip means making sure that the holes on your ball are not too big or too small. The ball needs to be the perfect weight for you, one which you are comfortable with. There are some who put special tape on the thumb holes. This special tape has a texture on its surface giving your thumb something to grip. You will gain better control over your ball due to the additional texture which allows for a better grip. Your scores will depend a lot on the quality of your stance. Your "stance" is the way you position yourself before you start your approach to your bowling lane. When you assume your stance, your knees are relaxed - not straight. Position your feet about the same width as your shoulders. Take the ball and hold it up to about the face/neck height. You'll still need to see down the lane. Then let the ball gently fall to the height of the waist as you begin your approach.
Keeping your eye on the ball is also true for bowling, however unbelievable it may sound. Of course, you shouldn't literally just stare at the ball while you are bowling. The point is to keep your eyes on your goal, or the pins you want to hit. Keeping your eye on the prize will mean that your arm will naturally send the ball in the same direction as your line of sight. It is just like how, in baseball, keeping your eyes on the ball helps improve your chances of actually hitting it. This is just an introduction, and there certainly are more points you can learn. One key is to never give up. If you let yourself get psyched out, you could adversely affect your performance. Just maintain a good perspective about it. Stay positive, keep practicing, and you'll get better and have more fun.
