Gardening is something that anybody can do. Everybody, even those who are sure they only kill plants, can learn how to properly grow flowers, fruits and vegetables. Give yourself time and eventually you'll learn how to grow everything from flowers to food to trees! The reason most new gardeners do not succeed is because they think that growing plants will be easy. When you are a new gardener there is a lot to learn but eventually it can become quite a simple activity! Gardening is more than dropping seeds in the ground and pouring water over the top of them every few days. Here are a few tricks to that you can use to improve the quality of your first garden.

Mulch is a great tool for your garden: it puts nutrients into the soil and keeps the pests away. Weeds do not grow well in mulch. Many gardeners use mulch to cut down on the amount of maintenance they have to do and because it keeps their gardens healthy. There are a lot of reasons why much is fantastic.

It is great for controlling the soil temperature in your garden while also keeping the soil moist for a very long time, even in dry conditions. One of the biggest reasons that mulch is popular is that it is very cheap and far less expensive than "regular" fertilizers. Mulch can work just as well without costing you nearly as much.

Map out your future garden before you do any planting. Mark out both on paper and on the ground where you want each type of plant to grow. This will help you quite a lot if you want to grow more than one type of plant at a time. The map will be especially helpful for telling the different types of plants apart while they are growing so that you can care for them properly. Many new gardeners have difficulty in telling one plant from another. Your map will help you keep track of what is growing as it starts to sprout. Maps can also help you plan next year's garden after this year's growing period is over.

You can use compost to make your garden healthier. Compost can be made in your own yard without your having to purchase special equipment.

Starting your own compost pile is simple. A compost pile can be built from things like grass clippings, bedding from a hamster cage (or any caged pet really), old flower cuttings, dead plants and flowers from your garden, tea bags, egg shells, coffee grounds, fruit and vegetable scraps from meals, fruit and vegetables that have started to sour before you eat them-all of it can be used in a compost pile. Pretty much the only thing you can't put into a compost pile is meat. By the time you are done you'll have a giant pile of home made fertilizer that you can use on your plants!

Gardening does not have to be challenging. Having the right gardening hints can help you become a very successful garden. Sometimes all a person needs to have is the right information to help them grow a good garden. Of course, practicing your gardening skills is also good. Keep working at it and eventually you should have a thriving garden. Nobody was born knowing instinctively how to create a successful garden-even experts had to start somewhere. Nobody grows a perfect garden their first time outside!
