If you are an amateur gardener, there are some bloopers in particular that you really do not want to make. If you perhaps mess up, you do not have to feel as if it is a fiasco, as you can generally fix things immediately or even during the following season. However, with a little forethought and knowledge, you can bypass many typical newbie gardening mistakes such as the ones we will be talking about in this article.

Planting at the wrong time is a gardening mistake that can prevent your plants from growing properly. The most common mistake in this area is planting too early, whether you're planting new seeds or moving a plant from indoors to your outdoor garden.

You can't just assume that you won't have some more cold nights just because you are enjoying warmer days. Winter weather during the change of seasons can be unpredictable and you may still have to deal with a late frost or two. If this happens, your plants stand a good chance of dying. Your garden will end up producing more if you delay planting for a couple of weeks until all danger of frost is gone. One frequent mistake beginning gardeners fall victim to, is not burying the seed deep enough. Something as basic as this can result in failure for your plants. You can have the best quality soil, and nourish it with compost, yet if you're not planting at the right depth, the plant cannot flourish. If a seed is not planted deep enough, it will not be properly nourished by the soil. Your seed needs light to sprout and cannot take an over abundance of water; so be careful at the depth in which you plant. In general, the drier the soil and the local climate is, the deeper you should plant your seeds. When you are dealing with a large type of seed; you will need to place it deeper in the soil. Always go by the recommended planting instructions when they are available.

Most plants need sunlight, but the specific requirements of different plants varies considerably. The time to figure out how much sun your plants need is before you start your garden. Depending upon the plant, most vegetables should get around six hours of sunlight to grow properly. So consider how much sun passes through a location before you decide on your garden's location. If sunlight is not something that is abundant in your area, some plants actually like shade instead. Do not over expose your plants to sunlight either as this will be detrimental. Some plants will do better with reflected sunlight and will wither from too much direct sun. When you take the time to map out your project and use some of our suggestions; you should be able to avoid a lot of undue complications. Never second guess such things like where to plant your seeds, or how much light or water is needed; this could be harmful. If you're not sure about something, there are plenty of sources of information, whether on the internet or at your local nursery. Do not forget that plants may be similar but are not exactly alike and will require specific maintenance plans.
