Believe it or not, there is more to bowling than simply rolling a ball down a lane and knocking some pins over. You will learn from any bowling fan that skill and technique are critical to being able to play a good game. Wondering how to better your game? Becoming a better bowler means getting some advice.

The type of ball you use for your bowling game can be an important choice. You don't need to take your own ball, though, as most bowling alleys will have plenty of bowling balls available to use. You can take a little time to try different balls out. You want to find a ball that is not too light and that is not too heavy. The holes in the ball should also be big enough so your fingers and thumb can fit comfortably. If your ball has holes that are either too tight or too lose, you could affect your control over the ball and make it harder to hit the pins you're aiming at. You can also use a bit of textured tape in the thumb hold if you need to improve your grip a little further. Lift and try each ball you think might be good for you until you find the one that is right.

It's best if you use your own footwear. It's true that most bowling places will provide rental shoes for you but they are only for the casual bowler. If you plan on spending quite a bit of time playing then you really need to have your own bowling shoes. Having your own shoes will ensure that your feet are comfortable and that you have the right arch support during the game. Shoes that don't fit well will end up being uncomfortable and you will be distracted and not bowl as well. You need to consider getting your shoes ready as well by rubbing the toes and heels with a wire brush. This helps decrease your likelihood of sliding around as you bowl.

Another way to improve your game is to watch expert bowlers and see how they do it. It's true for anything you want to learn or become better at that you can learn by watching someone who is very good at it. This is true for any sport, skill or field of study, including bowling. Watch the pros, either live or on television, and when you bowl next time, do your best to follow their example.
