As you do more gardening and you learn more about your hobby you are going to also learn about all sorts of gardening tools that, supposedly, will save you hours of time and make your garden even more beautiful. Of course there is no rule that says you need to buy ever tool ever invented. Start with a few basics and work your way up to the larger and more expensive tools that are out there. Simple human strength is usually all that is really needed to accomplish most gardening tasks. All you really need is your hands and arms if you want to move dirt and plants from point A to point B. Working with only your hands and arms is great but it can do a lot of harm to your body after a while so you should use tools instead to ease the strain on your limbs. This article talks about some of the tools that you might find useful.

A garden spade can be incredibly useful, especially if you are growing small and delicate plants. A garden spade an help you dig up weeds. Spades are also good for helping you clear things away from your plants without damaging their bases. You can also use them to help you plant seeds. It isn't likely that you will use the garden spade every day but it is good to have on hand for those times when you want to do delicate work around your plants. Using your spade instead of your hands will save you lots of time and energy no matter what kind of gardening task you need to complete.

You should keep hoes around. Many people think that using a garden hoe is a big pain. If you are new to gardening, hoeing will seem like a mostly optional task. If you have a big garden, however, hoeing is something that you are going to have to do regularly. You will use your hoe to make rows in your garden. It is difficult to make garden rows when you are trying to do some from a crouching or sitting position. Another major use of the hoe is for row outlining at planting time. This is the main reason you want a hoe with a long handle.

You might not believe this but using your hoe will save you more time than you can imagine while you are building your garden.

You should invest in a soil tester if one of your goals is to grow a "picky" plant. There are some plants that require the soil they grow in to have very specific nutrient contents and PH balances. If you have specific plants in mind for your garden you can use the soil tester to make sure that the soil you have is ready to support those plants. Everyday gardeners probably don't need to spend the money on this-only very serious gardeners usually use them. People who grow orchids would find a soil tester very useful because orchids are famous for their sensitivity. Farmers who plant a variety of plants also find soil testers useful because they can help them better practice crop rotation.

Figuring out which gardening tools you need can take some time. When you start your first garden you are going to want to purchase everything in the store. Don't get duped or give in to temptation: start small and then add tools as you find uses for them. This way you won't have to worry about spending too much money or wasting valuable storage space. Before you realize what has happened you'll be able to look at your gardening tools and instinctively know which tools you need to complete your tasks.
